Low Oil Prices

Economie| 08:53 - 03/08/2022  Follow-up- Mawazine News: Energy markets are awaiting the results of the OPEC + meeting scheduled for today, Wednesday; To discuss production quotas during next September, and their impact on oil prices and the volume of supply, with the escalation of the energy crisis hitting the world.

This comes with the record rise in oil prices on the impact of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, which has been taking place since February 24, and its impact on Russian energy supplies to Europe.

The meeting gains its importance because it is the first for OPEC + countries after the end of the production cut plans in place since May 2020 following the collapse of oil prices under the weight of the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, in addition to the continued increasing demand for oil, especially from Europe.

Expectations revolve around the meeting coming out with decisions that will directly affect oil prices.

The OPEC + plan included a return to the usual production levels in September 2022, but during June the alliance decided to push these increases to August amid high demand.

Oil prices hovered in recent days at the level of $100 a barrel, after reaching historical levels at $147 following the Russian military operation in Ukraine; due to concerns about supply shortages.

Oil prices fell about one percent in early trading, on Wednesday, before paring some of the losses that preceded the meeting of OPEC + producers, amid fears of slowing global growth that affects fuel demand and the rise of the dollar.

Brent crude futures were down 38 cents, or 0.4 percent, at $100.16 a barrel at 03:45 GMT. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell 35 cents, or 0.4%, to $94.07 a barrel.
