The Italian Ambassador Reveals The New Projects Of His Country's Companies In Iraq / Expanded

Baghdad / NINA / - The Italian ambassador to Iraq, Bruno Antonio, revealed a package of new economic and investment projects that Italian companies will implement in Iraq.

In a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency ( NINA ) , Antonio said : "We are currently working with the Iraqi Ministry of Transport to reach the implementation of the two railway projects and the international highway from Faw to Turkey," noting that "after Pope Francis' visit to the historic city of Ur, we will By linking this project to be a route for tourists from Europe to Iraq."

He added, "We have other engineering companies working in the provinces of Dhi Qar and Basra, and they are currently training hundreds of Iraqi engineers and technicians to work on the ground," noting that "working in the Mosul Dam is a wonderful example of joint cooperation between Iraq and Italy, where we worked for three and a half years, And now the Iraqis are the ones doing the actual work inside the dam."

Al-Hamidi: The Government Has Flooded The Country With Internal And External Debts

Pratha News Agency106 2021-09-20  The Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Investment confirmed, on Monday, that the government has failed in the economic development of the country.

Committee member Mithaq al-Hamidi said in a press statement, "The government cracked our heads with the white paper and voted on it, and therefore it and its paper failed to maintain or economic development."

She added, "The government flooded the country with internal and external debts, raised the dollar exchange rate, and targeted poor citizens and needy families."

She indicated that "the increase in the exchange rate was under the pretext of maintaining the balance of the central bank and preserving the hard currency, but we find that the central bank was unable to maintain anything."

It is reported that the government raised the exchange rate of the dollar months ago, which resulted in a significant increase in the local markets, food and commercial materials

Integrity Prepares A Series Of Anti-Corruption Bills

Tuesday 21 September 2021   83  Baghdad: Tariq Al-Araji   The Integrity Commission has prepared a series of draft laws that contribute to combating and preventing financial and administrative corruption, stressing that it had previously warned against abolishing the offices of general inspectors because of its effects on the integration of regulatory institutions and Iraq's international obligations in this field.

The Director of the Legal Department of the Integrity Commission, Furat Nima Karim told Al-Sabah: "The draft laws prepared by the commission in the field of combating or preventing corruption, many of them are the amendment of the Penal Code, the amendment of the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the draft law on access to and obtaining information, And the draft law on the protection of witnesses, informants, experts and victims, as well as the draft amendment to the law of the authority, and the draft law on illegal gain.

He added that "the authority also proposed some other draft laws and other amendments that have an input in preventing, combating or preventing corruption and preserving public money, such as the draft amendment to the inclusion law, the draft amendment to the discipline law of state employees and the public sector, the draft amendment to the owners law, and the draft amendment to the law The civil service, the draft amendment to the law on personal liability insurance for employees of state departments and the public sector, and the draft amendment to the Parliament’s elections law.

He explained that "a number of proposed bills came from parties other than the Integrity Commission related to recovering money and preventing its smuggling," noting "the commission's active contribution to preparing and drafting drafts of those laws," especially by mentioning "a draft law to recover corruption funds adopted by the President of the Republic, Barham Salih." Pointing out that "the commission had a presence in discussing many of the texts of the project, and drafting them, in line with its work and specialization."

The Director General of the Legal Department of the Commission of Integrity explained the Commission’s position regarding the Parliament’s decision to abolish the offices of general inspectors, explaining that “the Commission had previously warned against abolishing the offices of general inspectors, as this system touches the work of ministries and agencies not affiliated with a ministry,”

noting that “the Commission has warned that Before the cancellation decision, he indicated that canceling the offices would prejudice the integrity of the oversight institutions and negatively affect Iraq's international obligations, and that anti-corruption efforts would be affected by the loss of one of the influential and important links in the fight against corruption.

He continued, highlighting the proposed laws to toughen penalties for the crime of corruption and others that help reduce it, stressing that "the amendment of Penal Code No. (111) of 1969 (amended) prepared by the department includes toughening penalties for corruption crimes, and it has been sent to the State Council for scrutiny.

And the discussion, while the President of the Republic recently adopted a new draft penal law containing toughening penalties for corruption crimes based on the powers entrusted to him under Clause (First) of Article (60) of the Constitution.” LINK
