Iraq Resumes Tourism Aviation After Four Months Of Closure

Editing Date: 24/7/24 12:55 • 55 times read  [Baghdad_Yan]  Iraq Thursday resumed tourist flights in most of its airports, after four months of closure due to the Covid-19 epidemic that reached its peak in the country, where lifting the stone is essential to support the economy, which is experiencing its worst crisis.

On Thursday morning, several aircraft took off from Baghdad International Airport to Lebanon and Turkey. Employees wearing masks and gloves made sure of passenger checks that had to prove they were free of the virus to be able to travel.

The Basra and Najaf airports in the south of the country also reopened their doors on Thursday, while Erbil and Sulaymaniyah extended the closure until August 1, according to the Kurdistan Region authorities.

Airports were closed in March with curfews. Cases have risen dramatically since then, especially after the Eid holiday in June.

The curfew has been extended several times amid high numbers of cases, which has exacerbated an acute economic crisis sparked by low oil prices and paralyzing the Iraqi private sector.

Flights to Beirut and Cairo are scheduled to take off at 10:00 am Thursday.

The curfew will also be lifted after the Eid al-Adha holiday on July 30.
