Iraq, with one of the world’s largest petroleum reserves and very large amounts of oil production, should not need to import gas from anywhere. https://www.rudaw.net/english/opinion

chattels   The giant oil wells in Basra and other parts of southern Iraq currently flare the gas from the wells – burning it away for nothing but more pollution. Iraq never invested in the infrastructure needed to capture the gas produced at its many oil wells.

chattels   Whether due to incompetence, negligence, or other factors, officials in Baghdad never bothered to include gas production in their service agreements with MNCs. As a result, the gas sector in Iraq never came to life and one can see the flares from every oil well when driving across the country.

chattels   Baghdad has lost a lot of money and seen no investments in its gas sector.

chattels   In the end, the free market can deliver, but it also needs some effective, well intentioned protection and support from government authorities.

chattels   It does Iraq no good to have millions / billions / trillions of dollars in resources under the ground if they cannot produce, manage and market those resources.

chattels   I sent letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, and the foreign ministers of the permanent members of the UN Security Council, in addition to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to explain the reality of what is going on in Iraq and the need to hold those involved in the bloodshed of innocent demonstrators and present them to the International Criminal Court.

Patty   Matt My Daughter bought a fractional piece of one bitcoin but it bothered her as an investment so she sold out of that.

Patty   Matt when you purchase a bitcoin, do they actually send it to you? There's a place in Eastern Washington (lots of power because of Grand Coulee Dam) which produces bitcoins.

Matt   Patty No BTC Bitcoin is generally digital, however you can get a physical coin storage

Patty   Matt The newspaper showed a picture of the interior of that location that 'manufactured' the coins - huge warehouse full of computers - very special, expensive computers. I just wondered how that all worked. Isn't Christine LaGaard in favor of bitcoins?

Matt   Many digitally mine BTC but it does take Allot of electricity the more as the # of bitcoin are left to mine. There are only 21 million bitcoins that can be mined in total. Once bitcoin miners have unlocked all the bitcoins, the planet's supply will essentially be tapped out, unless bitcoin's protocol is changed to allow for a larger supply - which would be cheating like the USD and other currencies do.

TWWIII   New email from Kuwait: Hi TW, it was announced last night that 1,000 of our 1,400 troupes are coning home in late March. Last week things got very quiet here. There are no more protesters nor villans at the boarder now. In the english newspaper here, it said that once Allawi was announced for PM in Iraq, things got very quiet after a that week. .

The army is leaving 400 but 500 more US Army or Marines will stay through the summer. The english paper said that the new PM will be meeting with the SAUDI gov and reopening discussions about Iraq's monetary reforms including strengthening their currency like they did in 1991. I will be on a 4 day pass shortly.
