The Fed said it would begin on Monday buying at least $500 billion in Treasuries and $200 billion in mortgage-backed securities and reinvest all of the proceeds from debt already on its balance sheet maturing.
Translation for those of you in Portlandia: The FED Bank of NY creates 500 Billion on a computer and lends "we the people" this half trillion dollars that we, (our kids and grandchildren) will be paying back with interest.
How good of them.
Oh...and the 200 Billion in Mortgage Backed Securities are mostly owned by the banks who own the FED. Priceless.
