Samson: The World Bank: Half of Lebanon's population will be poor in 2021

The World Bank expected that half of Lebanon’s population will become poor in 2021, indicating that the public debt will rise to 196%.
In a report seen by Shafaq News Agency, the bank said, "Lebanon suffers from a long and arduous recession given the lack of policy-making leadership, and consequently, exchange market pressures will continue to stifle trade finance and corporate finance in the high dollar economy, which limits the import of capital and final goods."
He predicted that "Lebanon's real GDP will decrease by 19.2% in 2020, and the real GDP will contract by another 13.2% in 2021." "Poverty will probably continue to worsen, with more than half of the population becoming poor by 2021, while the debt-to-GDP ratio is expected to reach 196 percent, up from 178 percent in 2020 and up from 172 percent in 2019," the bank said in its report.
The economic crisis erupted last fall, driven by decades of waste and government corruption, as capital inflows dried up and protests engulfed the country. A year later, the currency collapsed and banks were paralyzed, as prices rose and jobs lost. LINK

Breitling When they start adding value to the currency it's going to be the same with Trump or Biden. But what's going to determine its final outcome is a different path. For Trump it's a long term deal. For Biden it's probably going to be a short-term deal. And that's how you have to look at it.
