Tishwash:  this is from iraq's news

Half of the world's wealth is owned by 26 people

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres revealed on Saturday that the 26 richest people in the world possess fortunes equal to the wealth of half of the world's population, pointing out that 70 percent of the world's population lives under the weight of inequality in income and wealth.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres accused world powers of ignoring the issue of inequality in global institutions, but said that the Corona virus pandemic created an "opportunity", available only over a generation or generations, to build a more equal and sustainable world.

Guterres, while delivering an annual lecture to the Nelson Mandela Foundation online, on Saturday, called for the conclusion of what he called a new global deal to ensure the sharing of power, wealth and opportunity on a wider and fairer scale at the international level.

Guterres said: "Countries that rose to the summit more than seven decades ago refused to think about the reforms needed to change power relations in international institutions ... training and voting rights in the United Nations Security Council and the Bretton Woods system are an example of this."

He added: "Inequality begins at the top in global institutions. Addressing inequality must begin by reforming it. ”

The Bretton Woods system includes the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Guterres said that the Corona virus epidemic, like X-rays, had revealed "broken structures in the fragile skeleton of the societies we built".

He added: "While we all float on the waters of the same sea, it is clear that some land in luxury yachts while others cling to floating rubble."   link

Elmerf123456:   Not Political, Not Religious, but a post for our survival of mankind

From a friend...People, regardless of their race, do not have to apologize for the sins of their fathers, grandfathers, and great grandfathers. You cannot owe for a debt you didn't accrue.

But, we as a people owe it to our decendents to truthfully account for our history. History is what it is. (Or was) It is both horrific and glorious.

Refusing to report the horrible in our history dooms us to continue reliving it and thereby never achieving peace.

I cannot think of a single culture without a blemished history. I have to believe that it's human nature to seek out the truth. I also believe that it's our nature to make right any wrong or injustice that we're made aware of by the truth so that we heal.

We need to take a deep breath, open our minds, and lead with love. The glory will come when all truths are acknowledged and reconciled with love and understanding.

We live in the greatest nation on earth!  Republicans, Democrats, and Independents all agree on this.

All black, white, latino, and Asian Americans would rather live nowhere else in the world.

The other thing we all agree on, regardless of race or political affiliation is that we have the ability to do and be better. Democracy is the only form of government that allows it's people a say.

So, if we are going to be better it's up to us. Knowing the truth about our history is where we start. Proceeding with love and understanding is how we start.

Tishwash:    Kuwait's central governor expects the banking sector to stabilize despite the Corona crisis

The Governor of the Central Bank of Kuwait expected that the Kuwaiti banking sector will remain at the same level of stability despite the crisis that is afflicting the country's economy due to the Corona virus.

In a statement on Sunday, on the occasion of the release of the Financial Stability Report for 2019, Governor Mohamed Al-Hashil said that the strength and durability of the banking sector "depends on the duration and severity of the current crisis, and its effects may differ from one bank to another."

He added that, despite the current exceptional circumstances that the Kuwaiti economy is going through, bank credit "may record good positive growth rates" as a result of low borrowing costs in light of unprecedented low interest rates and meeting the working capital needs of companies, especially those that recorded a deficit in their revenues.

He said that the quality of assets may decline slowly, and that economic challenges, declining net interest income and the need to increase allocations to cover the decline in asset quality "may put pressure on the profitability of banks".   link

Corona News 2020/07/18 20:49 40

Baghdad today – Baghdad

The economist, Hammam Al-Shamaa, on Saturday (July 18, 2020), presented what he described as the positives of lifting the comprehensive curfew after Eid Al-Adha and the reopening of malls and airports while committing to health protection from the Corona virus.

Al-Shamaa said, in an interview with (Baghdad Today), that “lifting the curfew and allowing movement between the provinces will revitalize tourism activities and restore part of the stalled economic wheel and have positive effects.”

He added, “The opening of airports may have a positive impact on the Iraqi economy, not tourism as much as it revives the activities of air companies, tourism and airport revenues,” noting that “the movement of international airports will have a positive impact on government returns.”

Al-Shamaa pointed out that “the economic gains figures for Iraq cannot be estimated, but it will restore the movement of gross domestic product through internal trade, transport activities and economic restoration.” The Iraqi government had issued a statement that included decisions of the Supreme Committee for Health and National Safety regarding the curfew and the reopening of malls and airports, which were published earlier, citing informed sources.

The committee said in the statement published by the official Iraqi government page on Facebook that it had decided to “reduce curfew hours to start from 9:30 pm until 6:00 am from Sunday, July 19, and to lift the curfew completely after the Eid al-Adha holiday.”

She added that she decided to allow the reopening of malls and shopping centers, provided that the measures for health protection and social separation are adhered to and that the airports of Iraq are reopened as of July 23.

The Committee stressed the importance of adhering to strict preventive health measures and rules for social separation, and reaffirmed that the Coronavirus virus disease remains a serious public health threat, and urged all citizens to continue to follow formal health guidelines in order to preserve their and their families’ and society’s safety

Tishwash:   $ 60 a barrel of oil ... Iraqi expectations after the return of economic life

Energy expert Furat Al-Mousawi expected, on Sunday, that the price of a barrel of oil will reach $ 60 in the coming months.

Al-Moussawi told Shafaq News that "the return of economic life to most countries of the world will contribute to increasing demand for energy and the price of a barrel of oil reaching 60 dollars in the coming months," noting that "this month of July will end the first stage of an agreement to reduce production, the implementation of which began at the beginning of Last May, with a total decrease of 9.7 million barrels per day.

He added that "the second stage begins at the beginning of next August by reducing the size of the reduction to 7.7 million barrels per day and continues until the end of 2020," noting that "the third stage begins in the beginning of 2011 until April of the same year, with a total reduction of 6 million barrels."

And Mousawi added, "It is expected that global demand will recover by 7 million barrels per day in 2021, after falling by nine million barrels this year, and the recovery of oil prices to about $ 43 a barrel from the lowest level in 21 years at less than $ 16 a barrel in a month. April".

And Moussawi said, "The actual increase in production from August may be less than two million barrels per day, given that Iraq and Nigeria pledged to compensate for the high production level in May and July with larger reductions than they pledged."

The expert in energy affairs stressed that "these reasons, the beginning of the return of economic life to most of the countries of the world and the start of opening air traffic again during the next month, which calls for an increase in energy demand, it is expected that oil prices will reach more than 60 dollars in the coming months."   link
